2016 + 1
As is becoming tradition, I took time over the holidays to reflect on what’s important to me in the coming 12 months. Working in the fast-paced tech industry and especially in LA (where there are no seasons), it’s easy to let each year pass without taking time to rejuvenate, reconcile, and recollect our priorities. And with such a tumultuous 2016, this year it felt especially important to take the time to appreciate where we started, where we are now, and where we want to go.
On the grandest scale, things are better now than ever before. On a personal scale, 2016 was a year of transition setting up for an exciting new adventure— one that I’m thrilled to embark on (more on that soon) — but also an important year that allowed me the time to think deeply about what I want, why I want it, and how I’ll get there.
My goals for 2017 are simple, but they are the culmination of many thoughts and baby steps that have led me to this point. They are an incremental improvement upon what I’m already doing, but with a centered focus and appreciation for the craft. Simply put, I hope to improve in all facets of my life this year — personal and professional.
I keep these in my iPhone notes as a guiding light for my daily decisions, right next to my core values:
Macklemore put it best:
“Don’t try to change the world, find something that you love and do it every day.
Do that for the rest of your life, and eventually, the world will change.”
